Thank you to Sarah from Diamonds & Light Photography for sharing with us this cheerfully adorable rural engagement.
Alex & Kristin were an absolute dream to work with. The love they have for one another is so completely obvious! Here is what our beautiful bride has to say about meeting her soon-to-be husband!
Q: Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet?
A: To say "a friend introduced us" doesn't quite cover it. Both of us have been married before. In my previous marriage, I became close friends with the wife of my ex's best friend. Of course when we divorced, I lost her - wasn't easy to stay close in that situation. Many years later, my email account sent her spam! She replied to it saying she knew that I hadn't actually emailed her, but she thought about me often and would love to reconnect. We met for dinner and it was just like old times. In the years apart, she had also divorced and now understood what I went through in losing both the marriage and my friends. I was so happy to have my friend back! About a month after we reconnected, she told me about a wonderful man she worked with... that he had recently divorced and she thought we would get along. I met her for happy hour and a group of her coworkers was there - including Alex. We talked for hours that afternoon and there was such a spark. Five days later we had our official first date and we have been inseparable ever since. God certainly blessed our broken roads.
Q: What makes your relationship special? Tell us some things that you both value in your time together. (example: pushing each other to new limits, love to travel, huge comic book fans, foodies, etc.) What makes your relationship unique?
A: We are both obsessed with theme parks! We are passholders for Universal Orlando, Sea World, and Busch Gardens. Our favorite time of year starts in September - that's when all the Halloween events start. We LOVE all things scary and "haunted" and have the best time exploring the parks together that time of year! Of course Christmas at the parks is magical too. We just love to "play tourist" together. Other interests include watching sports (especially FSU football!), trying new foods & cocktails, going to concerts (mostly country), keeping up with our fitness together, spending time with family, and loving on our 3 precious rescue dogs. We have a passion for doggies! Especially rescues.
Q: How did you know your partner was the one? When did you first know this in your relationship? (these may often be the same moment, but aren’t always)
A: I spent a couple years single before meeting Alex and really loved having so much time to spend with my girlfriends. When I met him and couldn't stop thinking about him, I realized I FINALLY felt ready to move things around to make room for him in my life. Prior to him I wasn't interested in changing a thing... when we connected the way we did, I knew I didn't want life to stay the same. He had changed everything, and it was perfect.
Q: Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen? Was it a surprise? What was the planning process?
A: Well, he proposed on "our bridge" (where we first said "I love you"!) at Universal Studios Orlando. But not just on any day - it was on the 2nd night of Halloween Horror Nights! Our friends caught it all on video and not only are we both wearing black and skulls, but there is the roar of chainsaws in the background! Sounds ridiculous, but it couldn't have been more perfect for us. I was SO surprised, had absolutely no idea it was coming. I thought we were just taking photos in our favorite spot, like we always do. Alex had been planning on it for months, and once he had the ring in our house he really started to struggle - he isn't good at "lying" or keeping secrets! Fortunately he only had to hide the ring for a week or so before our trip. It was the most perfect moment and I love that we have the video forever.
Q: We’re all about the bling… Tell us all about that ring!
A: Alex has always called me princess - so he got me a princess cut center with a halo of prong set round diamonds and small square channel set diamonds in the band. He did so good!
Q: Are you excited to start planning your wedding day? Do you have any ideas in mind yet?
A: Our wedding is nearly completely planned! We didn't do any planning after we got engaged because it was the holiday season, so about a month into 2018 we decided to get moving. We will be married on 5/5/2018, almost exactly 4 years since we met, in a beautiful backyard by the river, surrounded by all of the people who love us. After all we've both been through, we really can't wait for our happily ever after to begin.
