Thank you to We Choose the Moon Photography for sharing this beautiful love story.
These high school sweethearts FINALLY get engaged after 6 years together and attending two different colleges.
All about the couple:
Q: Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet?
A: Leonard and I went to high school together and first met freshman year. While we had classes together from the beginning, it wasn't until we were at the same table in biology that we really began talking to each other. From there, our friendship grew until we went on our first date in November of our sophomore year. Our relationship has been going strong ever since then, even through attending two separate universities.
Q: What makes your relationship special? Tell us some things that you both value in your time together. (example: pushing each other to new limits, love to travel, huge comic book fans, foodies, etc.) What makes your relationship unique?
A: Every relationship has unique qualities. We both value many of the same things and always push each other to be the best we can be. Neither one of us are satisfied unless we know we've fully executed something and left the impact we desire. The fact that we continually support each other and also help each other grow to reach our fullest potential is very important in our relationship. Plus, we both love to eat, experience new cultures, and look at corgi videos.
Q: How did you know your partner was the one? When did you first know this in your relationship? (these may often be the same moment, but aren’t always)
A: There were many defining moments in our relationship. I think for both of us it was important to know that this was more than just "young love" since we started dating when we were 15. From the beginning, however, we connected quickly over some of the same interests, favorite bands, and similar world views. We went on a trip to South Africa together the summer after high school. For me, this trip helped me know he was the one. We were able to have fun while traveling, I got to see him interact with more of his extended family, and in general the trip made us feel even more connected.
Q: Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen? Was it a surprise? What was the planning process?
A: Leonard and I were celebrating the end of our undergraduate careers with a nice dinner at Volare, an Italian restaurant in Louisville. After dinner, he suggested a walk across the Big Four Bridge, which didn't seem out of the ordinary as something we have done before. When we arrived, there were six stops (one for each full year together) with photos of us, roses, and a picture of a corgi with song lyrics (because who doesn't love corgis?). At the sixth stop, he proposed! Thankfully we have photos to remember the special occasion.
Q: We’re all about the bling… Tell us all about that ring!
A: We had several conversations in the past about ring styles that I liked. Of course, this came with some pictures and discussions on the world of engagement rings. My main wish was to have an ethically sourced ring, and I'm lucky to have a fiancé who happily kept this in mind! We did not go ring shopping together, and he kept it a surprise, but I'm in love with the ring! It's from Brilliant Earth and called "peony." We've already looked into some of the wedding bands that match!
Q: Are you excited to start planning your wedding day? Do you have any ideas in mind yet?
A: I'm very excited about the wedding planning process! We have already gotten quite a few things done in preparation for the big day May 19, 2018. Some of the planning was a bit easier to begin with because we knew the venue in advance (my fiancé's family farm). From there, a lot of details fell into place pretty quickly. There are still so many things to take care of, but I'm trying to approach the process with an open mind and positivity, because the most important part is getting to share the big day with friends and family!
