Missy and John first approached me to document their wedding back in 2010. From our first meeting, I knew that our aesthetics would be a great match. We scheduled their engagement session right away and they gave me total freedom to explore and create. This was early on in my wedding career, but I still love the vibe of the resulting imagery.
As their wedding day approached, life took a different turn for Missy & John when they found out they were pregnant with their son. The elaborate wedding celebration was off, and they opted for a small civil ceremony instead. Although their civil ceremony was perfect for them, I never did have the opportunity to create wedding photos for Missy and John.
Five years later, my husband and I moved to the Lehigh Valley. I kept running into Missy and her growing family but it wasn’t until a chance encounter at our local grocery store that my session idea began to take shape. As it turned out, Missy & John’s anniversary was coming up. Missy took me totally by surprise when she pulled out one of our engagement session photos which she was turning into a gift for John. It really blew me away that my photography was still having an impact on this couple.
I knew at this moment that I wanted to photograph Missy and John again and perhaps create some imagery for them to celebrate their marriage. I immediately contacted Alisa Tongg, celebrant and hostess of The Living Wall at Promise Ridge. After explaining the situation to her, she offered her beautiful elopement site for the styled shoot. Renee Bower of Forget Me Not Vintage Rentals and Sarah Petryk of Allium Floral Design also offered their services. Then I approached Missy and John. They agreed to the session! We quickly contacted Tia Drinnen of Meraki Beauty and Alicia Leayman of Apotheca Salon to bring Missy’s bridal look together. Lauren Lowcher of L2 Creations lent us some jewelry designs, Honeybliss Design created a custom stationery suite for the day and Kitchen Chemistry provided macarons for everyone to enjoy.
For the inspirational shoot, I chose a pantone palette of lush greens with copper accents that was reminiscent of wedding inspiration that Missy had dreamed of for a future vow renewal. I found a Soieblu gown sourced from David’s Bridal for Missy’s main look while John wore matching separates by Topman in Khaki Green from Nordstrom Rack. Missy’s second look consisted of a lace, bell sleeved crop top by Gracia and a long chiffon skirt by DB Studio. The bride’s own heirloom squash blossom necklace and the couple’s estate wedding bands completed the bridal looks.
I had a fantastic time working with this fabulous team of local vendors. We all hope that we were able to create an experience for Missy and John as well as beautiful imagery that reflects their love five years married.
